Shropshire Earthquake: 3.8 magnitude earthquake hits UK near Shrewsbury

A magnitude 3.8 earthquake shook Shropshire on Monday afternoon, the British Geological Survey (BGS) said.

The BGS said the quake struck at around 3.36pm at a depth of 7km.

“BGS has received numerous reports that this event has been heard by residents of Shropshire and surrounding counties,” they said in a statement.

Residents in the area reported feeling tremors and some said their homes had been shaken.

Claire Osborn of Shropshire said on Twitter that she felt the quake shaking while she was gardening.

Meanwhile, Sam Roberts, in Wem, said: “I definitely felt it … a pretty common experience !!”
