Sir Mark Rowley will be the new Met police commissioner

Sir Mark said: “I am deeply honored to be appointed as the next Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police. Our mission is to lead the renewal of the police by consent, which has been so affected in recent years as the trust and confidence have fallen.

“I am grateful that the Secretary of the Interior and the Mayor are determined to support the urgent reforms we need to deliver a successful fight against crime in today’s community. These reforms include our use of technology. and data, our culture and our police approach. We will fight crime with communities, we will not dispense tactics unilaterally. “

He added: “I also know that most officers and staff retain an extraordinary sense of vocation and determination and want us to do better. My job is to help them do that, while I am ruthless when it comes to ‘eliminate those who are corrupting our integrity.

“We will offer more trust, less crime and high standards for London and beyond and work with the various communities of London as we renew together the unique British invention of ‘consent surveillance’.”

“Getting the basics of policing”

Khan said: “The Home Secretary and I have agreed that Sir Mark Rowley is the best person to lead the Metropolitan Police as the new commissioner at this extremely difficult time.

“A number of appalling scandals have not only exposed deep cultural problems within the Met, but have contributed to a crisis of confidence in the London police service. Sir Mark has made it clear to me that he is determined to be a reform commissioner , committed to implementing a solid plan to regain confidence and trust in the police, and to driving the urgent reforms and the great change of culture and performance that Londoners deserve.

“As mayor, I will support you and keep these promises as long as you continue to hold the Met accountable. I look forward to supporting Sir Mark Rowley and working closely with the Home Secretary as we work to restore confidence and confidence in the police, to make sure that the Met correctly achieves the basic foundations of the police and to take advantage of the significant success we have achieved in reducing security, violence and crime in our city ”.
