The Ellen DeGeneres Show has come to an end after more than a decade. But there are some celebrities to whom the host still owes an apology.
By now, you’ve either heard Ellen DeGeneres’ talk show come to an end, or you’ve been living under a rock.
While there is no denying that the program was iconic in many ways and had moments that had a big impact for the right reasons; during the final episode, DeGeneres even shared that he was not allowed to use the word “gay.” When the show first aired in 2003, there was a reason why DeGeneres was culturally canceled long before it was the actual show.
This has to do mainly with allegations of ill-treatment on the set, somewhat related to comparing confinement to prison while living in his giant mansion with a huge garden, and in part to the celebrities he soiled in the your program.
1. Taylor Swift
I only listen to about three Taylor Swift songs, but I will defend this woman all day long. Like the rest of the world, DeGeneres liked to get on the train of shame when it came to Swift and her romantic life, in a way they would never do to a man.
DeGeneres wasn’t the only person to speculate, but his insistence on something that leaves Swift so uncomfortable that he almost seems to be crying is hard to see. Leave Swift alone.
2. Nikkie Tutorials
Beauty youtuber NikkieTutorials was invited to the show after being forced to introduce herself to her followers as a trans woman because of the threats she received without permission.
Although the interview went well, NikkieTutorials later criticized DeGeneres for the terrible backstage treatment he received.
He described the host as “distant and cold” as he spoke to a Dutch publication & C.
He detailed that instead of a warm welcome she was only “picked up by an angry inmate who was a little overworked”, and as “she was not allowed to use the nearest toilet, because it was reserved for the Jonas Brothers”. Instead, in a clear show of how she was valued as a guest, she was sent to the public restrooms.
3. Maria Carey
Carey appeared on the show in 2008 and DeGeneres used the interview to push her to announce her pregnancy.
At first, DeGeneres simply pointed out that there were rumors of pregnancy, but when Carey replied “don’t talk about it,” DeGeneres tried to force Carey to go out toasting so she wouldn’t get pregnant with champagne.
All of this is well worth it, and the fact that Carey had an abortion shortly after the interview is just one more example of why commenting on a woman’s body during pregnancy is never right.
After the toxic complaints in the workplace came out, Carey said in an interview with Voltor that “I felt very uncomfortable with that moment is all I can say. And it’s really hard for me to fight the consequences. “
4. Dakota Johnson
This clip went viral as people praised Dakota Johnson for defending herself when DeGeneres tried to frame her as the bad guy in the air.
In fact, this clip essentially started the spiral of people sharing their allegations about a toxic work culture, so Johnson really paved the way for lesser-known people to talk.
5. Hasan Minhaj
As someone with a name that literally no one can pronounce, I fully understand that some names you haven’t found before can be hard to say, so ask for correction, correct your mistake, and everyone moves on (ideally).
However, when you’re hosting one of America’s most important talk shows, it’s important to learn to say the names of your guests, if not out of professionalism, at least to be respectful.
Not only did comedian and political commentator Hasan Minhaj have had to teach DeGeneres how to pronounce his name correctly during his interview, but he continued to mispronounce it several times.
Minhaj was a total champion in this regard; laughing at it, wondering out loud why people might learn complicated names of white celebrities (side note: it’s racism) and even answering a question about what he did at Starbucks with: “Just me I dedicate it to Timothée Chalamet “.
6. Lea Thompson
Following complaints from staff about a toxic workplace, Back to the future Actor Lea Thompson responded on Twitter to an article by People in which Everyone loves Raymond Actor Brad Garrett said the toxicity was “of general knowledge” and that he knew “more than one who was treated horribly by her”.
Thompson never went into detail, but his two-word response makes it pretty clear that something happened: “A real story. It’s.”
