Playing now: Skull and Bones Gameplay Reveal Livestream (Ubisoft Forward 2022)
Skull and Bones will be released a day before Sony’s God of War: Ragnarok arrives on November 9th. For more information, see the new GameSpot Skull and Bones preview.
In addition to announcing the release date of the game, Ubisoft confirmed that there will be gameplay and cross-platform progression.
In Skull and Bones, players are on a journey to become a pirate boss and will increase their bad reputation by participating in naval combat in different scenarios. Players will take contracts and raise resources, and will also be able to customize their naval fleet. Skull and Bones is specifically inspired by the late 17th century, known to be the second golden age of piracy.
Skull and Bones also supports cooperation, either by starting a group session with a maximum of two more, or by finding these players in the game world and connecting them. The game also supports PvP, so players can face each other face to face, facing their fleets with others.
Ubisoft also said it has an “ambitious” post-launch plan to support Skull and Bones for several years after launch. This will include “new content, activities, stories and challenges” that will be free.
A Premium edition of Skull and Bones, entitled The Ballad of Bloody Bones Collection, will also be available, which includes cosmetics for players and their ships. This package also includes two additional missions, a digital art book and a soundtrack, as well as a “Smuggler Pass” token, which sure sounds like a battle pass.
Everyone who orders Skull and Bones gets the Highness of the High Sea package, and that includes Captain Notoriety Garb’s suit and Coronation Firework.
Skull and Bones development is led by Ubisoft Singapore, with Ubisoft teams in Belgrade, Sofia, Berlin, Chengdu, Kyiv, Montreal, Paris, the Philippines, Pune and Shanghai. Ubisoft Blue Byte is also helping.
Skull And Bones was announced at E3 2017, but its path to launch has not been easy. The game is said to have undergone numerous changes throughout its development, including a shift to a live service approach in 2020.
