The Solomon Islands has created a moratorium on US Navy ships entering its ports, US officials said on Tuesday. The ban, which was revealed by the US Embassy in Australia, comes after a US Coast Guard vessel, the Oliver Henry, was unable to make a routine port stop last week when the government local did not respond to a request to refuel. Solomon Islands has seen its relations with the US deteriorate this year after signing a security alliance with China in the spring. Western allies have been concerned about what the deal could mean for Beijing’s influence in the Pacific. “On August 29, the United States received formal notification from the Solomon Islands government of a moratorium on all naval visits, pending updates on protocol procedures,” the North’s embassy said American in Australia in a statement on Tuesday.
