There are no plans to delay Sonic Frontiers following the game’s recent revelation, Sonic Team studio head Takashi Iizuka told VGC.
#DelaySonicFrontiers was briefly on trend on Twitter earlier this month, after many Sonic fans used the social media platform to express their disappointment with the first videos showing the game in action.
As part of an upcoming VGC interview, Iizuka was asked what he thought of the mixed reaction to the game’s footage.
“It’s not really that amazing,” Iizuka replied. “We realize that everyone is reacting to the videos they’ve seen, and because they don’t understand what this new gameplay is, they’re comparing it to other games they already know.
“So we see a lot of people saying, ‘Oh, that’s right, that’s right, but it’s not like that, it’s not like that.’ of “open zone”.
“And this new gaming system itself is something that doesn’t really exist in any other comparable title, so hopefully from here until the release we can really explain what open zone gaming is all about.”
He added: “If people come to Gamescom or the Tokyo Game Show, [they can] Get this hands-on experience to play the game and understand what the game is all about. Because right now we’re watching videos of people reacting to what they think is the game. “
We asked Iizuka what she thought about the recent hashtag #DelaySonicFrontiers on social media and if she was really in a position to delay the game if she wasn’t completely happy with it.
However, Iizuka stated that this was not a problem, because the development team is happy with the game as it is.
“Frontiers is in development now and in fact we’ve been doing a lot of game testing with our target audience, which would be in that demographic of someone who would play a Sonic game and enjoy it,” he replied.
“From the results of our game tests, we’ve been repeating, we’ve been hearing feedback coming back, but we’ve also received a lot of great feedback from people who value the game and say,‘ I had a lot of fun. Playing this game would give you a score of 80 or 90 points out of 100 ‘.
“So we think we’re getting to the point where this game is being played, and people will like it, and we want this game to be in the hands of our fans as soon as possible.”
He added: “We are really confident in the results of the game tests we are getting. A lot of people say they had a great time, they really liked the game.
“So we realize that a lot of people are watching the videos online and making assumptions, but we feel confident according to the results of the game tests of the target population that are coming and playing the game from start to finish, the we really like the game and we are sure we are making a game that will be satisfactory.
“So if our development team has coronavirus, or they’re all hospitalized, or there’s something that really prevents us from being able to deliver the game on time, we’ll need more time.
“But we’re working right now with our team in Japan who are working really hard to make sure the people on this holiday can buy the game, pick it up, take it home and have a fun experience with it.” .
