Sony plans to expand significantly to PC games, according to an investor report released this week. By 2025, Sony says, about a third of the games in the PlayStation portfolio will be released on PC.
PlayStation’s own portfolio includes a number of top-tier series from prestigious developers, including Insomniac’s Ratchet & Clank, Santa Monica Studio’s God of War and Naughty Dog’s Uncharted and The Last of Us. Traditionally, PlayStation games have remained exclusive to PlayStation, but in recent years, Sony has begun bringing them to PC:
From a gamer’s point of view, Sony’s continued foray into the PC is undeniable. And given that it’s still hard to get your hands on a PS5, even as we get closer to the point of this generation of consoles where developers leave the PlayStation 4 behind, PC versions will help more games arrive to more people.
But the choice to launch PC games also benefits Sony from a financial perspective. The port of Horizon helped drive total sales of the game through an impressive benchmark: to date, more than 20 million copies have been sold. And it’s not just Horizon that makes a lot of money. In the investor’s letter, Sony estimates that its computer portfolio is on track to generate revenue of $ 300 million during the company’s fiscal year 2022, more than triple the revenue in the same segment for its fiscal year 2021 and about 10. times the revenue of the segment of its fiscal year 2020. Clearly, PC gamers like entertainment games with luxury production values. What a surprise!

Sony has not revealed any details on which games are next to make the leap to the PC. (Sony officials did not immediately respond to a request for comment.) Data miners suggest that the r5uelike PS5-exclusive Retrogelike is next on a PC port. (Returnal was among the games called Nvidia’s massive data leak, which was correct about the existence of Kingdom Hearts 4.) Earlier this year, Sony released Horizon Forbidden West, a sequel to Zero Dawn, in PS4 and PS5. It’s safe to say that this game will hit PC … eventually. Probably.
