A dangerous driver called a senior judge an “absolute helmet” and thanked him sarcastically after being jailed for more than a year, and could now face a longer sentence.
Levi Cull pleaded guilty to a series of offenses after crashing a Mercedes into Bolton. During a hearing at Bolton Crown Court today (Tuesday, June 7) he was sentenced to 14 months in prison.
Prosecutor Harriet Lavin’s attorney told the court that Cull, of Langshaw Walk, was spotted by a police officer around 2:30 p.m., March 21 this year. The 25-year-old “tried to grab his head” before turning onto a side street away from police.

During a brief chase, Cull drove at 60 mph on the wrong side of the road, passed a red light, and crossed a busy intersection without stopping. On Gibbon Street, Cull crashed and sent the other vehicle to a parked car. The Mercedes driving Cull crashed into a fence, another car overturned and finally landed on its roof.
Cull, who has 10 convictions for 26 offenses, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving without a license and driving without insurance.
He was defended in court by Nick Ross. Ross said: “The defendant has acknowledged that he has a long way to go. He raises his hands.” Ross added that the vehicle was not stolen and that there were no “serious injuries” to anyone although the accident was “dramatic”.
Bolton Honorary Judge Martin Walsh jailed Cull for 14 months and banned him from driving for three years.
Following the sentencing, Cull, who appeared in court via a video link, said: “Thank you very much, absolute helmet. In a little company.”
Following the outburst, Judge Walsh indicated that Cull will be taken back to Bolton Crown Court for contempt of court, meaning he could add his conviction.
