A self-proclaimed “sovereign citizen” has filmed his freak road collision with a highway patrol officer who, strangely, believes he has “no authority” over him.
It appears the man was pulled over on the side of a NSW road by the highway patrol after he was allegedly clocked doing 106km/h in a 60km/h zone.
In a lengthy confrontation that was later uploaded to TikTok, he filmed himself tormenting an officer with false claims about what he believed to be his rights under “common law”.
The man appears to belong to a group of people who call themselves sovereign citizens and say they are answerable only to their particular interpretations of “common law” and are not bound by any statute or government procedure unless given the your consent
The motorist stopped by the Highway Patrol made a series of strange comments to the officer, including, “just remember, your choice creates your destiny.”
“Okay. I’ve made my choice and you’ve made yours. Let’s get on with it,” the agent replied.
Despite being on public land, the motorist told the officer: “I’m not entering”.
“I have not alleged it. This is a public road. How can you be?” the officer replied.
For no apparent reason, the man threw a strange tantrum over what he believed to be the definition under common law.
“Common law is common law. It is the law of the land. Admiralty maritime law is the law you enforce. It requires consent,” he said.
The officer, clearly bewildered, wonders why the conversation had turned to maritime law, telling the man, “I’m not the big water police.”
“They don’t even tell you, they lied to you too,” the biker replied before asking the officer, “do you see where this is going?”
The officer told him: “Down with you. That’s all I see.”
Although he claimed he was “not trying to fight” with the officer, he appeared to have refused to hand over his license after allegedly being flagged for speeding.
The officer told him, “produce a license [and then you’ll be] free to go”.
As the biker continued his effort to convince the officer that he didn’t have to obey the law, the officer took out his phone and started typing.
“You should pay attention. This is real life, it’s not a dream,” said the biker.
The officer subsequently asked the motorist to move off the road so he would not be in danger of being hit by a passing car.
“Constable, I am not under your authority, have I made myself clear?”
The video was cut before the outcome of the exchange was revealed.
