Splendor In The Grass hit by heavy rains, forced to close some campsites

The festival posted on social media that heavy rain and flooding around Byron Bay meant campers and vehicles could no longer be accepted at North Byron Parklands.

People still traveling to the festival are asked to head to the Byron Events Farm at 35 Yarun Road, Tyagarah.

“This does not include Accessible, Flashcamp and Tent City customers who will still be accepted at NBP,” Splendor said in its message.

There will be free buses between Byron Events Farm and the festival at Parklands for patrons.

“Thank you for your patience here and a big shout out to our staff working around Mother Nature to get you here safely,” festival organizers said.

Byron Shire Council said it was up to the organizers to “rectify” the problem, which is flooding and mud, as the council has a “limited role” in organizing the festival.

“We know there have been very long queues of traffic to get into the festival and this has been frustrating for people and has an impact on local residents and businesses,” the council said in a statement.

“It is a very professional and well organized event and customer safety is always the key priority for the organisers.

“It has been extremely wet this year and the rain over the last few days has certainly caused problems for the organizers in getting the vehicles onto the site, leading to major delays.

“The City Council has no doubt that the organizers are working as hard as they can to fix the problems.”

The festival previously announced it would extend Parklands entry times to cope with the massive queue.

“Weather and staff shortages were worse than expected,” organizers said on social media.

“We’re doing the best we can — the show rain, hail or shine.”
