Steven Bergwijn’s latest future: European giants make improved bid for Tottenham winger

Dutch giants Ajax are reportedly ready to make a better offer for Tottenham striker Steven Bergwijn after rejecting an initial offer.

The Netherlands star has already expressed his desire to leave the North London club this summer after failing to secure a regular starting place with Antonio Conte last season.

And a report from De Telegraaf states that a new offer from Ajax is on the way for the 24-year-old.

Tottenham sporting director Fabio Paratici is believed to have valued Bergwijn at around £ 25.6 million. But that figure is well ahead of Ajax’s initial proposal of £ 15 million plus £ 4.3 million in add-ons.

The Daily Mirror reported last month that the Dutch side was ready to bet on the brave end.

However, they will make a significant improvement in this offer if they want to get their man.

Bergwijn only scored four goals and added two assists in 32 games for Tottenham last season. But his most memorable moment of the campaign came when he scored two goals in stoppage time to turn a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 win over Leicester in January.

Bergwijn’s talent has not shone brightly enough

His overall balance, however, is not good. In fact, the Dutchman has only scored eight goals in 83 games with the club.

Despite this, Bergwijn has shown signs of his true ability that can tempt Conte to keep him. Much will depend, however, on the type of striker Tottenham lead this summer.

Conte is known to want another number 9 to support Harry Kane, with Richarlison and Gabriel Jesus the names in this role.

Both the Everton man and Manchester City are also capable of playing a lot. To that end, Bergwijn’s future in north London seems doomed, but only if Daniel Levy gets his price.
