Stocks are up, boosted by retailers ’results

US stocks rose on Thursday, pushing the Dow Jones Industrial Average up for the fifth day in a row, after good retailer results lifted sentiment across the market.

The blue chips added 1.8%, or about 580 points, while the S&P 500 gained 2.2%. The high-tech Nasdaq Composite was up 3%, helped by earnings from shares of Apple, Microsoft, Amazon.com and Tesla.
