‘Stray’ is Annapurna Interactive’s largest PC release

Following its release yesterday (July 19), Stray has broken the record for competing players for any Annapurna Interactive game on Steam, meaning it is the studio’s largest PC release of all time.

Prior to Stray’s release, Annapurna’s most popular interactive game at any time was Twelve Minutes, with 8,021 concurrent players. He was followed by Outer Wilds with 7,936, Neon White with 3,277 and Journey with 1,757. Stray has taken the record and then some, seeing a large number of 62,963 players in the game at the same time on the day of its release.

Analyst Benji-Sales highlighted how Stray had 50,555 players in the game at the time, and that number only increased as time went on according to Steam Stats. It remains to be seen how the game’s sales have performed, but if player reviews are needed, this could be Annapurna Interactive’s most successful game to date.

Developed by BlueTwelve Studio, Stray has set record stats after topping the wish list earlier this month, dropping the survival horror game The Day Before from the top spot.

In our review we said, “Stray gets it right. The game’s dystopian dioramas are full of memorable cat cracks. The environments are full of color and life, from crowded bars and hat shops to programmers’ nests. through his art direction, Stray really paves the way for your imagination as you try to guess what the world is like outside the walled city you pushed yourself into.

Steam gamers seem to agree that Stray is really nice, as the game has received over 9,400 reviews at the time of writing, and nearly 8,750 of these were “overwhelmingly positive.”

In other news, Ubisoft employees have addressed why developers avoid communicating with fans whenever possible, especially around the release of a new title.
