Ball one to four runs
Looking for quick runs to bolster India’s total early in the second day, Captain Jasprit Bumrah clings to a gorilla Stuart Broad. The ball flies in the direction of Zak Crawley with a thin leg, but falls inches in front of his desperate dive and bounces through his hands over the boundary rope.
Ball two to five wide
Persisting with his short ball tactics, Broad hits the ball in the middle of the court, only to see it sail over the head of Bumrah and goalkeeper Sam Billings on his way to the limit.
Ball three: no ball plus six runs
Another short ball from Broad and another hoick from Bumrah grabbing the top edge, this time flying over Jack Leach’s thin boundary rope to the third man. To make matters worse, the referee indicates that Broad had been overtaken, meaning he only made one legal throw while conceding 16 runs.
Ball four – four runs
A change of approach from Broad, who tries to throw a yorker but overcompensates and throws a horrible full throw, which Bumrah hits in the middle for four more. Repetitions show that Broad was lucky not to be called by another ball without a ball at the height.
