Sudbury Court House bomb threat suspect arrested

A man Greater Sudbury Police say is responsible for an Aug. 5 bomb threat at the Sudbury Courthouse has been arrested.

The city’s 9-1-1 emergency communications center received a phone call about a bomb threat at 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 5.

The information provided was that a bomb had been left inside the Palace of Justice and was about to explode.

Officers attended the area and established containment of the building, while additional officers assisted in evacuating the Courthouse.

The Greater Sudbury Police Emergency Response Unit, Courts Branch and Patrol Operations completed a thorough search of the building and did not locate any suspicious packages or explosive devices.

Upon completion of the search, people were allowed back into the building and court resumed for the day.

Through the ongoing investigation, Greater Sudbury Police detectives identified the man believed to be responsible.

The 25-year-old was located and arrested in Toronto by the Toronto Police Service on August 6.

The suspect has been charged with false messaging, public mischief, threats, mischief under $5,000 and harassing phone calls.

He was transported to Greater Sudbury to attend the statutory weekend and holiday (WASH) court on August 7. After attending WASH court, he was arrested and will appear in bail court today, August 8.

Upon his return to Greater Sudbury, the suspect was also arrested on an outstanding warrant for criminal stalking.
