Police say officers shot and killed a suspect at a motel on Boulevard Marcel-Laurin de Saint-Laurent this morning, following a series of seemingly random shootings in the greater Montreal area.
Montreal police (SPVM) are not releasing any details about the case, but Quebec’s police watchdog, the Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes (BEI), said the suspect was involved in three shootings recent ones in Montreal and Laval.
Montreal police had already confirmed yesterday that the two shootings in Montreal were likely committed by a single suspect and said it could have been random.
A man in his 20s was shot in Laval last night on Clermont Boulevard while riding his skateboard.
According to the BEI, SPVM tactical intervention group agents allegedly began searching the motel at around 7am this morning.
The BEI says police allegedly confronted a man, 26, who had a firearm, and shots were fired.
The man was shot at least once and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the office.
Seven BEI investigators will investigate the actions of the Montreal police during the intervention.
In a statement Thursday morning, the Sûreté du Québec said it will take over the investigation of the three homicides at the request of the BEI.
