Information provided by an alert bus driver led the Campbell River RCMP to a suspect in a bank robbery on Thursday afternoon.

The suspect was arrested on a bus in the Willow Point district of the city.

Police responded at 2:26 p.m. at the Bank of Montreal in the Shoppers Row area, where witnesses said a masked man had filed a note asking for money from an ATM.

He left with what police called a “substantial” amount of cash and was seen changing clothes within walking distance.

Police said the 42-year-old suspect is known to them.

“That was the best possible outcome we could expect in a situation like this,” Const said. Maury Tire. “The prompt response of the police and the excellent witnesses allowed the incident to be concluded without anyone being injured and the stolen funds recovered.”
