Suspended news presenter Heather Kovar breaks the silence after a fuzzy broadcast

A New York news presenter accuses her of exhaustion after being suspended for tripping over a Saturday night show, in which she looked messy and had difficulty reading her script.

Heather Kovar, during a 6 p.m. broadcast for the CBS WRGB affiliate, was clearly out of danger.

His hair was messy and he seemed to be talking off the script as he gave news and time, often stammering.

“Going forward, tonight we have to tell you, you know, how other news is happening in the area and throughout the area and the nation,” he said, presenting an Ohio story.

When he threw himself into meteorology after doing a heat round in the country, he introduced the wrong meteorologist and then asked, “Why did I say that?”

Kovar said in a statement, which he shared Monday with NBC News, that he would not renew his contract with WRGB when it expires later this month.

“I recently returned early from family leave after my father’s death,” he said in the statement.

“On Friday I warned the station that I would not renew my contract, which expires on July 31.

“On Saturday I was scheduled to work on the 6am show and also in the evening. I was sleepless and exhausted,” he added.

Kovar had shared on Twitter that he would take a double turn.

First from 6am to 8am, and then from 6pm to 11pm. Sunday was scheduled for a similar schedule.

Kovar had said during the afternoon broadcast that the station had covered a local music festival in the early hours of the day.

“We arrived early, they started at 2pm,” he said.

It’s unclear if Kovar was referring to herself actually going to the festival or the station covering it.

A WRGB statement said Kovar had been “suspended pending our internal investigation.”

“We have no further comments at this time,” the statement said.

Kovar has been at the station for about five years. Her Twitter biography says she is an Emmy winner.
