Sydney is preparing for another winter week, with cold winds and possible snow in the state

Sydney is set for another cold, wintery week, with strong winds and light snow in parts of the state on Monday.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued storm warnings for the coasts of Hunter, Illawarra and Eden, with strong wind warnings in Sydney, Byron, Coffs Harbor, Port Macquarie and Batemans Bay.

Harmful winds, with gusts of up to 90 km / h, are expected to develop on Sunday night, which will continue until Monday afternoon in places such as Newcastle, Sydney, Wollongong, Nowra, Goulburn and Cooma.

Local wind gusts of up to 110 km / h Illawarra can occur in the early hours of Monday morning.

Stephen Stefanac, an office meteorologist, said strong winds are likely to start early Monday morning as a cold front pushes the state.

The cold front will bring heavy snowfall in the NSW Alps, with possible dust for other parts of the state as temperatures drop.

“It will bring colder temperatures … especially with the winds, it will be a little cold,” Stefanac said. “This will definitely be felt in Sydney.”

Although Sydney has a maximum forecast of 17 degrees, the wind will make it look colder than that and “it will be quite cold”. Similar high temperatures are expected for the rest of the week.
