Sydney recruit Peter Ladhams faces suspension after ‘brain explosion’ against old team

Sydney ruckman Peter Ladhams is likely to be in the hot water after a “brain explosion” in the loss of the Swans in Port Adelaide.

Ladhams, who joined the Power Swans this season, gave his former team two goals in two minutes in a period of terror at the Adelaide Oval.

Port Adelaide beat Sydney by 12.10 (82) to 8.11 (59) to record its sixth win of the season.

Moments after receiving a ping to throw Darcy Byrne-Jones to the ground of the ball, Ladhams found himself in trouble again.

The 24-year-old threw Ollie Wines to the ground and then punched him in the stomach, resulting in a free kick for the home team.

Charlie Dixon scored the goal and Swans coach John Longmire immediately hooked Ladhams.

“It’s something you can’t allow to happen,” four-time Premier League winner Jordan Lewis told Fox Footy.

“One, you’re fighting the crowd, you’re fighting the momentum of the game right now, and yet you’re giving away two very silly free kicks that have ended up directly in the opposition’s goalposts.

“He’ll probably spend another week on the sidelines, too. The tackle is done, that’s all that has to happen, but then you see the swing of his right arm.

“This is just a brain explosion.”

Brownlow medalist Mark Ricciuto pointed out that bad discipline could have been behind Ladhams’ departure from the club at the end of last season.

“This could confirm the reason he was kicked out of the club,” he said.

“Why would you do that? Why would you do that to your ex-captain and former teammate?”
