Take a look at the huge 1-inch camera sensor of this Xiaomi 12S Ultra disassembly

The Xiaomi 12S Ultra has just come out of the hardware oven, but we already have a disassembly that reveals some interesting details about the phone. One of the most interesting aspects of the model is undoubtedly the 1-inch Sony IMX989 camera sensor, the largest so far built specifically for use on a phone.

As we mentioned, there is an online disassembly video, courtesy of WeikiHome (video embedded below), which shows the camera system in detail. The main module is only 11.06mm thick, more so than some high-end smartphones.

Much of the space inside the Xiaomi 12S Ultra is devoted to the camera system: next to the 1-inch main module, there is a 48 MP periscope camera with 5x optical zoom capabilities and another ultra-large camera of 48 MP.

There’s also a lot going on with this 1-inch sensor. There’s a new 8P aspherical lens that helps even more with flame, ghosts, color aberration, and other photographic artifacts.

You can also see other elements of the Xiaomi 12S Ultra in the disassembly video: the optical stabilization system, the different printed circuit boards, and the cooling copper sink. Unfortunately, the Xiaomi 12S Ultra is only for China, at least for now.
