Tarek and Heather Rae The Moussa are expecting their first baby together!
The couple was in the midst of in vitro fertilization treatments and had even scheduled a date to transfer an embryo next fall when they had a happy surprise a few weeks ago, they tell PEOPLE exclusively.
“It was a big shock,” says Heather, 34. “We didn’t expect that. We had just gone through IVF. We had ice embryos. We had a plan.” But after the disbelief disappeared, the Selling Sunset star was exalted. “I think when you least expect it and there’s no stress in your life, the world just brought us what it was supposed to be. I’m very excited that it happened that way.”
Having a baby of your own wasn’t always in the couple’s game plan, which they met in 2019 and got married last fall. Tarek already shares children Taylor, 11, and Brayden, 6, with former Christina Hall, and Heather felt fulfilled being what she called “an extra mother.”

“When we started dating three years ago, we got into our relationship without thinking about having kids together. I love being an extra mom to Taylor and Brayden. They’re such amazing kids and I love them so much,” she says. . “But as your love grows more and more and you fall in love more with someone and build that life together, I started imagining having a child with Tarek. I started thinking I just wanted to create something with l ‘man I am. In love with. “
“I’m obsessed with my kids. They’re my whole thing, so having another one is the icing on the cake. I’m very excited,” says Tarek, 40.
Heather adds, “He’s such a good father. That was another reason I wanted to create something with him. Seeing him with Taylor and Braden, he’s very obsessed with them. And he’s such an adorable and amazing father. I look forward to seeing him with our baby. “

The story goes on
The couple, who is in the middle of filming their new HGTV documentary series The Flipping The Moussas, received the happy news a few weeks ago and is expected early next year.
The day they found out Tarek was sitting in a Zoom meeting and she said, “I just had this weird feeling and I thought I needed to get a pregnancy test right away.” Heather said she’s fine and Tarek “went back to work and completely forgot about it.”
Heather did two tests. “They both came out‘ undetected, ’” he recalls. “I said, ‘Oh, I must have done it wrong.'” Tarek went to look for work, and then things changed at home.
He did one more test. “I was organizing my clothes. I was just doing other things, and probably like 20 minutes later I said, ‘Oh, the pregnancy test.’ I went to look and said I was pregnant.” She shouted, surprising her assistant, who burst into tears of happiness when Heather shared the news.

He surprised Tarek later that day when he returned from work, hiding the evidence in a gift box with confetti and a baby jumpsuit. “He was like, I have to tell him in a nice way. I can’t just send him a text message,” he jokes.
“I’m opening this box and there are these sticks. I’m looking at them and I think, are these COVID tests? And then I said, ‘Oh, s —! Are you pregnant?’ She said yes, and that’s how we realized. “
“I swear to you, it was 30 seconds of him trying to put it together,” he recalls laughing. After she confirmed, “I started crying because it was a moment of excitement and relief. He was very happy. We hugged, we hugged and we kissed.”

The couple has already taken the test to find out the sex of the baby, but will be surprised by the results at a revelation party in a few weeks.
“Tarek thinks she’s a girl. I don’t know yet. I just want a happy, healthy baby,” Heather says. “We already have Tay and Bray, so I’d be happy with either of them. But I secretly want a little Heather.”
He has also shared the happy news with some of his Selling Sunset teammates: Mary Fitzgerald, Chrishell Stause and Emma Hernan. They are “so happy,” he says.

And the unexpected moment couldn’t be better.
“My sister is pregnant with her third baby,” Heather says. “My parents’ dream was for us to be pregnant at the same time. I never thought this would happen and the fact that it happened alone makes it so special for our family.”
Expanding your family means one more important change for the couple: finding a new home. Real estate professionals have just completed a massive renovation of their property in Newport Beach, California, but are now looking for something even more suitable for children.
“We’re looking for a new home and if we don’t find it when the baby comes, we do have space for the baby in our current home,” Tarek says. “But we definitely need to find a bigger house with a patio and a little more space.”
