Cowboys winger Murray Taulagi will make his debut for Origin with the Maroons in the second game of the series on Sunday after Queensland coach Billy Slater called him up to the team.
Taulagi, who was part of the extended squad for the first game, will replace the injured Xavier Coates, as one of the two key changes for the Maroons with Reuben Cotter was also ruled out due to a hamstring injury suffered last weekend.
Cotter’s omission will cause Rabbitoh striker Jai Arrow to return to the team in the only other change to the Origin I team, which saw the Maroons take a 1-0 lead. with a 16-10 victory over Sydney.
Taulagi, a former Queensland under-20 player and Junior Kangaroo, will become the seventh Cowboy to take part in Origin this year with teammates Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow, Valentine Holmes, Tom Dearden, Jeremiah Nanai and Cotter, all present at the Maroons squad for the first game. .
Nearby Jordan McLean was also included as part of the Blues team for the second game.
Broncos duo Thomas Flegler and Corey Oates have joined the wider team along with Titans striker Beau Fermor and Warriors fullback Reece Walsh. Walsh made his Queensland debut in the second game last year before being ruled out at the last minute due to injury and will join the extended team as cover.
Looking to close out the series, the Maroons will train in Queensland to start the week before traveling to Perth on Thursday for the second game in the Ampol State of Origin series.
