A Mississauga teenager faces charges in connection with a shooting at a popular tourist attraction in Niagara Falls that claimed the life of a child and injured two more in April.
Niagara Regional Police responded to a shooting in Clifton Hill, near the Great Canadian Midway, around 12:30 a.m. Friday, April 8th.
Officers arrived and found three men under the age of 18 with gunshot wounds. One of them was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other two were taken to hospital with serious injuries, but survived.
A blue Ford van was seen leaving the area at high speed after the shooting, police said earlier. Investigators posted a detailed description and images of the vehicle during the weeks following the shooting.
Police said Tuesday that a 17-year-old boy from Mississauga is now facing a series of charges related to the shooting. They include attempted homicide, aggravated assault, robbery, intentional discharge of a firearm, reckless discharge of a firearm, possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, possession of property obtained for a felony, and theft of a motor vehicle.
The suspect cannot be appointed under the terms of the Juvenile Criminal Justice Act.
The teen was scheduled to appear in court for a bail hearing in St. Louis. Catharines Tuesday.
Police did not say on Tuesday whether they have located the suspicious vehicle, but they did indicate that they could still be looking for other suspects.
“At this time no one has been charged with homicide,” Niagara Regional Police said in an email to CP24.com. “More suspects remain part of the investigation. Detectives are not providing further information at this time.”
Police say their investigation is ongoing and they are asking anyone with more information to come forward.
