Texas school shooting: Murdered teacher Irma Garcia’s husband dies of “broken heart”

The husband of a woman who died Tuesday in his Texas class has died of a heart attack after laying flowers at his memorial.

Joe Garcia, 50, “almost just fell” after returning home from the monument before he died, according to family members.

“I really think Joe died with a broken heart,” Irma Garcia’s cousin Debra Austin wrote on a GoFundMe page. “Losing the love of his life for more than 25 years was too much to bear.”

ESO fourth-year teacher Irma Garcia was killed along with her classmate and 19 students in the deadliest shooting at a school in Newtown, Connecticut, nearly a decade ago.

The motive for the massacre is still under investigation, authorities say the 18-year-old gunman had no known criminal or mental health record.

The shooter, Salvador Ramos, was in the Robb d’Uvalde primary school classroom for more than an hour before he died in a shooting, authorities said on Thursday.

The commotion has shaken a country that is already recovering from armed violence, and tolls have continued to rise in Uvalde, a predominantly Latin city of about 16,000 people about 120 kilometers (75 miles) from the Mexican border.
