A 26-year-old man has died from a complication caused by the AstraZeneca vaccine after a doctor gave him out-of-date information.
Jack Hurn’s GP told him there was a one in 250,000 chance of developing a blood clot due to the jab when the odds were actually much lower, one in 50,000.
At the time, those under the age of 40 had to offer an alternative to shooting AstraZenca because younger people were more likely to have problems with it.
However, people can choose to receive the jab if their decision is properly informed.
Hurn, from Redditch in Worcestershire, was inoculated on May 29 last year, but the Revival Fires vaccination center in Dudley had run out of Pfrizer stock.
So the graduate in automotive design decided to go ahead and accept the AstraZeneca vaccine.
He became ill in eight days and had to go to the hospital for emergency surgery.
Despite this, he died on June 11, just under two weeks after receiving the blow.

Birmingham coroner Emma Brown filed a narrative verdict on Friday.
He said: “He agrees that Jack was told the risk was one in 250,000.” There is no doubt that he took it into account.
“At the time, the Joint Committee on Vaccines and Immunization had advised that it would be preferable for adults under the age of 40 without underlying conditions to be offered an alternative to the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine.
“But people could make an informed decision to get the AstraZeneca vaccine for earlier protection.
“Jack did not receive all the information to make an informed choice. In particular, the risk of complications for his age group was underestimated.”
Mr Hurn’s family said: “Jack was our world. Our family will never be complete without him and we are still struggling to accept his death.
“All Jack wanted to do in life was be the model son, the model brother, the loyal partner, the best friend to many, a good citizen, and the best person in the world.
“I think as a parent we can say that in his 26 years he achieved all this and that he did it with a lot of civility, humility, courtesy, but tinged with the fantastic sense of humor he had for anyone who knew him. legendary.
“People were attracted to Jack, there were no barriers with him and he made people from all walks of life feel special.
“Her dream of having a family to raise and a good father has been cruelly taken away from her.
“This week’s investigation, though painful, has helped us understand more about the circumstances of what happened at both the vaccine clinic and Redditch and Birmingham hospitals.
“But it’s clear that there were flaws, delays and inconsistencies that kept Jack from receiving the level of attention we would have liked him to receive.”
An NHS England spokesman in the Midlands said: “Our sincere condolences to Jack Hurn’s family and friends for the tragic loss they have suffered, and we recognize how difficult it will be to relive events this week.
“As a result of the incident, several immediate actions were taken and we will continue to work with our partners regarding the forensic findings.”
