An Amtrak train traveling from Los Angeles to Chicago derailed Monday in Missouri after hitting a dump truck, Fox News was told.

Several cars on an Amtrak Southwest Chief train derailed in Mendon, Missouri on a public crossing and had 243 passengers on board, a company spokesman said. There were reports of unspecified injuries.

“Currently, local authorities are helping customers and we have deployed Amtrak resources to help,” the spokesman said.

The incident came a day after three people died Sunday when an Amtrak commuter train crashed into a car in California.
