Irma Garcia’s husband, one of the teachers killed in the gruesome shooting of a massive Tuesday school in Uvalde, Texas, has died.
Joe Garcia, 50, suffered a “medical emergency” on Thursday, just two days after the massacre at Robb Elementary School, where 19 children and two teachers, including his wife, Irma, were shot.
Joe delivered flowers at his wife’s memorial on Thursday morning. When he returned home, he collapsed, according to Irma’s nephew, John Martinez, who tweeted about his uncle’s death.

“When he got home, he was home no more than three minutes after sitting in a chair with his family,” Martinez told NBC News. They tried to do chest compressions and nothing worked. The ambulance came and they couldn’t, they couldn’t take them back. “
The Garcias were beloved in high school and were married for 24 years. They leave four children behind, according to the website of the consolidated independent school district of Uvalde.

Irma was a 4th grade teacher and taught Robb Elementary for 23 years. According to witnesses, he died protecting his students from gunfire.
The city of Uvalde, Texas, is facing and accepting the loss of life after a shooting at the school on Tuesday that left 21 dead.
