Warner Bros.’ The 2022 San Diego Comic-Con panel was one of the most anticipated of the year, and there were some updates and announcements for the audience.
Going into the panel, we expected updates on Black Adam, the Shazam! sequel, the Aquaman sequel, Wonder Woman 3, The Batman 2 (and other possible The Batman spin-offs), and maybe just an update to The Flash. The Rock hopes Black Adam and the Justice Society will give the DCEU a ‘fresh start’
Dwayne Johnson’s upcoming anti-hero film is the next DC live-action film on the slate and will feature the Justice Society. Originally slated for a July release, it was moved to October amid a flurry of schedule changes from Warner Bros. A new trailer was released, showing Viola Davis’ more Justice Society Amanda Waller and a new horned, red villain (though it looks like that part was cut from the version that went publish online).
Johnson first appeared on stage in costume, before a quick change into something a little less cape-centric. He talked about giving the DC Universe a fresh start with the Justice Society and the opportunity to build it further. A fan asked him who would win in a fight between Black Adam and Superman, to which Johnson replied, “It depends on who plays Superman,” to cheers from the crowd. But
A new trailer for Shazam! Fury of the Gods features the villains and Rachel Zegler
A surprise hit in 2019, the first Shazam! The movie was the kind of good-natured family fun you’d expect from this particular character. Heading into SDCC, we had already seen Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu as ancient vile goddesses. The new trailer gave us a lot more of Mirren (including a moment where Zachary Levi’s Billy Batson says he’s seen every Fast and Furious movie, the latest of which stars Mirren) and our first look at West Side Story star Rachel Zegler in the film. , as a new character with glowing hands.
This was the only film affected by Warner Bros.’s schedule changes, moving from a 2023 release to a December 2022 release.
No updates on any of the other projects, and especially not on The Flash

We thought there might be news about the next Aquaman sequel, or the third Wonder Woman movie, or any of the upcoming The Batman follow-ups, or the Batgirl movie, or the Static Shock movie, basically, anything about the other projects. But no! It was just these two new trailers.
Most notably, there were no updates to The Flash. DC’s most troubled project is in a bit of a slump, thanks in part to lead actor Ezra Miller’s deviant behavior. This movie has been around long enough that Ben Affleck joined the cast almost two years ago and a trailer was released in October 2021. Since then, it’s been a series of delays and incidents for the movie from speedster.
There were no updates on this project during the event. The Flash made an appearance, a brief one, in the trailer for the new Shazam! film, but even then, the character’s face was carefully covered or obscured at all times (see The Flash Without A Face above).
