British railways will be shut down for three days this month when workers go on the biggest strike in a generation.
The RMT union said it would close the network on June 21, June 23 and June 25 in a dispute over the proposed job loss. There is a risk that each 24-hour outing will spill over the next day, causing a one-week break.
More than 40,000 workers, including employees of Network Rail and 13 train companies, will leave on all three dates. Some 10,000 more London Underground workers will picket on June 21, virtually shutting down the network. It will be the largest railway strike since 1989.
Among those on strike are signalmen and maintenance workers, which sparked fears that it would break.
