The body of a Shopify executive who disappeared seven months ago has been recovered in a pond on the far east of the city.
Ottawa police say human remains were found in the water of Rockcliffe Lake in the Sir George Etienne Cartier Parkway and CH Airport-Marina Road area on Saturday afternoon. The wreckage was recovered by the Marine, Diving and Trails Unit.
Police say a forensic identification process confirmed Wednesday that the remains are those of 35-year-old Brett O’Grady, who has been missing since last October.
Investigators have concluded that foul play is not suspected in O’Grady’s death.
O’Grady was missing in October and was last seen in the Avro Circle area near the Aviation Parkway. Her family said O’Grady went for a bike ride while working from home on Oct. 14 and did not pick up her son from daycare in the afternoon. O’Grady’s wallet and cell phone were left in the house.
Her bicycle was found by a neighbor near the family home.
Emergency services spent days searching the Sir George-Étienne Cartier Parkway area, Polaris Avenue, the Ottawa River and the Aviation Parkway, but there was no sign of O’Grady.
O’Grady’s family said police suspended the search of the area four days after his disappearance because they believed he was no longer in the area, but an investigator continued to follow the suggestions.
O’Grady was the chief treasurer and treasurer of Shopify.
Her family had offered a $ 10,000 reward for the advice that led them to find Brett. Shopify provided funding for an Alberta search and rescue expert to come to Ottawa to assist with the search.
