Firefighters discovered a body early Sunday morning after battling a grass fire in southeast Calgary.

Police said firefighters were battling a grass fire that broke out at Anderson and Macleod Trail around 4:20 a.m. when they discovered a body in the middle of the blaze.

The fire was started by a passing driver and police said they had not found any other witnesses to the fire.

The identity of the deceased is currently unknown. The medical examiner is working to determine the cause of death and whether it is suspicious in nature.
