Passengers were evacuated from the San Francisco International Airport international terminal Friday night due to a bomb threat, authorities said.
Officers assigned to the airport received a report of a bomb threat around 8:15 p.m., found a suspicious package and “considered the object to be possibly incendiary,” said Officer Robert Rueca , a spokesman for the San Francisco Police Department.
A man has been arrested in connection with the incident, Rueca said.
Additional police resources, including the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit, have been deployed, and are being investigated, he said.
Airport officials confirmed shortly before 9:30 p.m. that “ongoing police activity” led to the evacuation and told passengers to avoid the international terminal until further notice.
“AirTrain and BART service are suspended,” officials said. “Return and collection of passengers only at domestic terminals”.
Several travelers went to Twitter and other social media to post about the evacuation, and one said they heard an announcement that the international terminal was closed, but that no other information was provided through the ad system. the airport.
Officials from the Bay Area Rapid Traffic Agency issued an alert at 8:50 p.m., indicating that the airport station was closed “due to police activity” and that there was a service. bus between Millbrae and the airport in both directions.
