Baker Mayfield has been linked with the Panthers since the Browns traded for Deshaun Watson and an agreement has finally been reached to send the quarterback to Carolina.
NFL Media reports that the Panthers will send a conditional selection for the fifth round of 2024 to Cleveland in exchange for Mayfield. The selection may become a fourth round depending on playing time and the exchange will not become official until Mayfield takes a physical exam in Carolina.
There were also some contractual disputes to reach agreement. Mayfield was to earn $ 18.8 million this season and questions about how much the Browns would pay had been an obstacle to previous discussions. Cleveland will pay $ 10.5 million from Mayfield’s salary and the Panthers will pay him about $ 5 million with Mayfield accepting a pay cut to help ease the deal.
