Municipal park updates made

Concrete sidewalk work in the city park
Just in time for the arrival of hot weather, improvements to City Park are coming to an end.
The new path between the Hot Sands and Cold Sands toilets is now open. It is further away from the water and wider, making it more accessible and hopefully improving safety for pedestrians, cyclists, runners and other users.
Part of the project also involved stabilizing the shoreline along the hot sand beach with logs to reduce erosion.
Phase 2 improvements began in February and construction was initially scheduled to be completed by the end of May.
Workers could be in the park for the next few days making some tweaks, but the bulk of the improvements have been completed.
Phase 1, which included road improvements from the bridge to Hot Sands Beach, was completed in 2010.
Phase 3 of the city park project extends a new path from the Cold Sands Basin to the foot of Bernard Avenue.
Other improvements have also been proposed. Kelowna City Council applied for a provincial grant for community culture and leisure to build a meeting circle and pier at Cold Sands Beach, but was denied funding.
