Wednesday: Several rounds of severe thunderstorm potential as temperatures and humidity rise
Unseasonably warm and humid conditions are expected Wednesday ahead of a cold front, with daytime highs reaching the 30s and near 40s in parts of southern Ontario. Cooler temperatures Wednesday night will provide minimal relief from the heat. There are special weather statements for some.
Additionally, the first round of storms will begin developing overnight Tuesday near Lake Superior, then move south and east during the early hours and early Wednesday morning. The exact track and timing of this first convective system remains uncertain, but it will be an important piece of the puzzle in how the rest of the day plays out.
Additional rounds of thunderstorms will develop through the afternoon and early afternoon, fueled by instability that has rebuilt from the morning’s storms. These should merge into a line, bringing the threat of torrential rain and damaging winds, but also possible embedded areas of rotation.
Storms will continue to push eastward during the evening and overnight hours, with the threat of severe thunderstorms lingering until atmospheric instability subsides after sunset and a cold front clears the region.
Be sure to monitor weather alerts throughout the day Wednesday.
