The ending of Gentleman Jack’s series 2 has been told

The two spoilers from the Gentleman Jack series follow.

The question “Are they going, right?” which hung over Anne Lister (Suranne Jones) and Anne Walker (Sophie Rundle) during the first season of Gentleman Jack was answered with a resounding yes: yes, they did and they did.

Naturally, it would be easy to imagine them in the unconventional (for the times) phase of happy life forever, but this is based on a real story and reality dictates that there is an “afterlife” to deal with.

The move from Ann Walker to Shibden Hall has not been easy. Nor have they attempted to merge their assets when Ann’s attempts to split the Crow Nest estate are blocked by her brother-in-law, Captain Sutherland (Derek Riddle).

More intense for their relationship has been Anne’s affair with ex-lover Mariana (Lydia Leonard).

Its insidious single appointment has been like an underground current that is expected to explode.

Will Ann and Anne be able to keep their love story from the storybook?

The ending of Gentleman Jack has been explained

BBC

Ann Walker’s attempts to split the Crow Nest estate bequeathed to her and her sister Elizabeth (Katherine Kelly) have come to an end. Elizabeth may have been too happy (or forced) to cede ownership of her land to her husband, but Ann is determined not to be harassed.

Their round-trip correspondence has only annoyed both parties, and in the end Captain Sutherland and Elizabeth are forced to make the trip to Yorkshire to settle the matter.

Despite her outward appearance of kindness, Captain Sutherland wants to discredit Ann by claiming that the “vulnerable” Miss Walker has been coerced by Anne into splitting the property. By making her seem mentally incompetent, she hopes to block the division so that she can keep the property as one, giving her partial ownership of all the land.

Meanwhile, Anne Lister has her own fish to fry, and those kippers come in the form of a new business venture.

She hopes to improve Halifax by building a Northcote hotel and casino. Her over-indebtedness in order to secure the hotel’s capital has caused tension between her and Ann, who carries the day-to-day financial burden of the two. Ann worries that they will exploit her, which makes them argue, but her monetary problems are just the catalyst for a much bigger struggle.

Ann accuses Anne of not sharing all parts of her life with her, saying, “I’m your wife when it suits you, when you need money, in bed, but when it comes to [meeting] your aristocratic people, I am an inconvenience. “

BBC

The fight revolves around the subject of Mrs. Mariana Lawton, with whom Ann reveals that she knows Lister has had an affair. In addition, Ann reveals that Anne’s extravagant spending terrifies her. With her problems escalating, Ann makes the surprising decision to end their relationship.

But there is no time to process the agitation. The Sutherlands have arrived in Yorkshire and mean business, or so the captain does. Poor Elizabeth seems to have rejected her husband’s tyrant.

Ann is summoned to her aunt’s house to settle the split with the Sutherlands, but the captain has a lot of dirty tricks up his sleeve. When his attempts to discredit Ann’s powers failed before the lawyer Mr. Gray, he tricks Ann into handing over the deeds of property to Attorney Mr. Parker (Bruce Alexander).

The brazen Sutherland then forces Parker to hand them over by painting Anne as a predator and fortune hunter who has an “unnatural power” over Ann.

BBC

He does all this while the Northcote Hotel Commemoration Ceremony takes place. Anne and Ann realize this and try to frustrate their plans, but Parker’s secretary frustrates them. They return to Shibden, where the Sutherlands are later found.

Reinforced by his success, the captain continues to lie when he confronts Ann. He shares that both Mr. Gray and Mr. Parker agree with him (now that they are aware of the “Lister manipulation”) that splitting the property is a mistake.

His lies, however, are revealed when a Mr. Gray arrives at Shibden Hall and Lister allows Sutherland to believe that it is Gray, the lawyer, who has just lied. Elizabeth, seemingly panicked and fed up with falsehoods, confesses that her husband has been deceitful. She urges him to do the right thing to allow Ann to have her land and sit back in a corner. Captain Sutherland has no choice but to accept.

Anne’s small but heroic act convinces Anna of her feelings for her and persuades her to reactivate their relationship.

What happened to the other Lists?

BBC

While everything may be rosy between Anna and Ann in the end, the Lists look a little worse for wear.

Friction bubbles between Anne and her sister Marian (Gemma Whelan) over their engagement to Mr. Abbott (John Hollingworth). Anne thinks she is an inappropriate couple, as she thinks Mr. Abbott is not worthy of Sister Lister.

He informs Marian that if she intends to marry him, he will cut her off. This loud slap in the face bothers Marian, but not as much as when Mr. Abbott cancels his planned wedding after discovering the true nature of Anne and Ann’s relationship.

Marian’s heartache pushes him to announce that he intends to leave Shibden and return to Market Wheaton. Her father (Timothy West) agrees to go with her because of her blatant disapproval of Anne’s risky business, with whom she says she is making a fool of herself.
