Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February has pushed up wholesale energy costs around the world.
In the UK, the energy price cap (the amount businesses can charge in a single year) is £1,971 for dual gas and electricity customers, up 54% from six months ago. Ministers and energy companies will today discuss emergency plans to help families facing fuel bills of more than £4,400 next year. But what about the rest of the world?
Countries in Europe are tackling the crisis in a variety of ways, with several modest energy-saving measures, including Germany’s national advertising campaign encouraging people to take shorter showers and France asking shops to keep closed doors, to generous government packages.
