While Apple’s WWDC 2022 event was packed with exciting news, such as iOS 16, a new MacBook Air, the M2 chip, and more, there were several announcements that really made our heads spin.
Apple likes to think that everyone is at the forefront of technology, but some of the “new” features that come with their devices are so far removed from the rest of the tech world, they made us ask “this really didn’t exist before. ? “. These are the big ones:
Email scheduling
Yes, the feature has been in Gmail and Outlook since the beginning of time (well, not at all, but at least for a few years now). But hey, better late than never, right?
With the new Mail update, users can now send emails at specific times, undo mailings, track, and more. This will be especially useful for those who often send emails to users in different parts of the world and do not want their emails to ping people at the stupid point.
Weather application on the iPad
What? Does the iPad not have a weather app? No, for reasons only Apple knew, only a weather widget was available on iPads. If you hit it, it redirects you to a nasty weather website. But eventually, with iPadOS 16, tablets will have the full weather app, similar to what you’ll find on iPhones. Comes complete with some fantastic weather-themed backgrounds, stats, maps and more.
Unfortunately, version 16 will not carry the much sought after calculator application. Fingers crossed Craig Federighi will give us a big, creepy revelation of this in 2023. After all, Apple needs to keep some features for the next big release.
Routing multiple stops on Apple Maps
When your iPad is upgraded to iPadOS 16, you can add multiple stops when planning a route to calculate the total distance of a trip.
Even Apple’s biggest fans of Tech Advisor admit that Apple Maps really has a long way to go before it can catch up with Google, and this recently announced feature continues to show that Apple’s most popular news can be the next Android catalog.
Shared photo libraries
Google added this feature five years ago to Google Photos, so it’s time for Apple users to join the action.
ICloud’s shared photo library lets family members choose which images they want to share from their library to these albums; they can also let the iPhone do it automatically. Allows up to five users in a library and is limited to users in a group for family sharing.
Areas of heart rate control
Fitness fans, rejoice! WatchOS 9 can now tell you in which “zone” your heart rate is during a workout. Sounds good … until you realize that this has long been available on £ 50 / $ 50 fitness trackers. It was also the feature that made this writer wonder – in disbelief – “What? The Apple Watch didn’t have training zones before?”
However, this is a benefit for fitness-loving Apple Watch owners, who will be able to save workout records and switch between sports if you enjoy triathlons.
Advanced sleep monitoring
I know, I know. You would assume that the number 1 smartwatch for sale could properly track your sleep. But no. Until now, or at least until watchOS 9 came out, you haven’t been able to see your REM, deep sleep, and central sleep all night. Another feature that has been much cheaper hardware for years.
But again, this is another third-party app that Apple Watch users won’t need anytime soon. And the statistics can be compared to heart rate and respiratory rate metrics in the iPhone Health app.
