Ahead of Geoff Keighley’s E3, but also a bit of E3 Summer Games Fest next week, Sonic Team has released a very short teaser for Sonic Frontiers.
I know there is a vocal subset of the video game community that hates when a new world-looking game is loosely opened and the video game press calls it “Breath of the Wild meets X”, so I won’t do that . Instead, I’ll say it looks like Breath of the Wild and Horizon Zero Dawn had a baby with Sonic. (Please do not search Google “X has a baby with Sonic”).
In it, Sonic traverses a landscape full of light and sprinkled with flowers sprinkled with futuristic-looking ruins. While several games have featured Sonic’s roaming in a limitless world, Frontiers’ aesthetic is very different from previous Sonic 3D games. It looks more realistic than Sonic Adventure, Sonic ’06 or Sonic Unleashed. In the briefer view of the game, it seems that the Blue Blur is a little less restricted by the forced 3D and 2D perspectives of previous games. He seems to be running in a really open world, picking up rings, crushing rails and knocking down monstrous robots reminiscent of the mechanical beasts of the Horizon franchise.
Sonic Frontiers and more will be on display next week during the Summer Games Fest.
