Environment Canada has issued the following heat warning for Sault Ste. Marie and St. Joseph Island, as today’s humid, warm weather is expected to last until Tuesday.
Today’s temperature has reached 31.7ºC, according to currently available data. This makes it the hottest day on record this year.

Heat and humidity conditions are expected to continue through Tuesday.
On Tuesday, temperatures close to 30 degrees Celsius are expected with humidex values close to 36.
Night lows near 18 degrees Celsius will provide little heat relief.
Slightly cooler temperatures are expected on Wednesday.
Hot and humid air can also cause a deterioration in air quality and can cause the air quality health index to approach the high risk category.
The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, and people who work or exercise outdoors.
Monitor the effects of heat illness: swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and worsening of some health conditions.
Drink plenty of water even before you are thirsty and stay in a cool place.
Look for a cool place, such as a shaded area, pool, shower or bath, or an air-conditioned place like a public building.
Never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle.
Keep your home cool. Block the sun by closing curtains or blinds.
Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose a high risk of heat illness, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.
