A Gold Coast monorail, once a landmark tourist attraction, will soon go up for auction, starting at just $ 1 this week.
The Gold Coast Oasis monorail on Broadbeach, built in 1989, operated for more than 30 years before being stored in 2017.
Lee Hames, chief operating officer of Lloyd’s Auctions, said several people had already expressed interest in turning old carriages into a new tourist attraction.

“This is an opportunity to have an important piece in the history of local tourism that many Australians know and love,” Hames said.
“We have had interest from people who wanted to renovate these carriages and turn them into other types of tourism opportunities.”

The nine monorail wagons will be put up for auction tomorrow, starting at $ 1.
In New South Wales, the Big Banana trains associated with the Coffs Harbor Big Banana tourist attraction will also be auctioned off after 17 years of storage.

Trains were a popular feature of the Big Banana Fun Park in the 1980s.
“There has been interest from buyers of all kinds, from people who wanted to refurbish trains and people who wanted to keep them as souvenirs,” Hames said.
“This could be the start of a new market niche that will open up for the auction industry.”
The train and monorail wagons will be auctioned tomorrow at 2 p.m.
