HBO has released the first teaser trailer for The Idol, the new series from The Weeknd and Euphoria creator Sam Levinson. The series stars The Weeknd and Lily Rose Depp.
The series underwent a creative review in late April. with the departure of director Amy Seimetz and actress Suzanna Son. The series follows a pop singer who begins a romance with an enigmatic LA club owner who has become a secret cult leader.
Abel Tesfaye, who plays The Weeknd, created the series with Levinson and Reza Fahim. It was understood that he was not happy with the original creative direction of the program.
The Idol was thought to have received a seven-episode order from its April changes. HBO hasn’t updated this status.
