The infamous notch is still a controversial design decision on Apple’s part, and one of the many, many reasons to hate it was the disappearance of the battery percentage indicator from the status bar when it arrived the iPhone X. But as Apple continues to slowly roll back some of the more questionable design choices it’s made in recent years, the battery percentage indicator is finally making a comeback.
While you’d think ignorance would have helped those of us with battery anxiety, many were devastated to see Apple remove the ability to see a (more or less) accurate representation of our device’s battery life on the home screen and in many apps, with the iPhone X. The feature fell victim to the X’s new display notch, which facilitated the camera and IR projector needed for Face ID, but it significantly reduce the amount of graphical real estate in the iPhone status bar.
How battery percentage is displayed in iOS 16 beta
It’s a feature that iPhone users have been hoping would return for years, and according to 9to5Mac, it’s finally included as part of today’s iOS 16 beta. The feature can be turned back on in the device’s settings iOS battery and can be turned on and off. and remains persistent even while charging or while the battery icon turns yellow when iPhone is in low power mode. However, according to 9to5Mac, the feature is not available for all iPhones with notches. The iPhone XR, iPhone 11, iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 13 mini have been left out of the party. It remains to be seen if they will get access to the feature in later betas or the final version of iOS 16, or if these models simply don’t have enough screen space and resolution to accommodate the added numbers to be large enough to be readable.
