The latest MSI monitor uses Samsung’s QD-OLED display technology

Dell’s Alienware was the first to bring Samsung’s cutting-edge QD-OLED display technology to a computer monitor. But now MSI is preparing its own product.

At Computex, MSI is mocking (Opens in new window) a 34-inch gaming monitor that incorporates a QD-OLED panel. It is called MEG 342C QD-OLED and has a curved screen. “The best way to explore realistic and vivid gameplay scenes is with this game monitor masterpiece,” says MSI.

QD-OLED has attracted attention because it increases the level of display technology by combining Samsung Quantum Dot material with OLED panels. According to Samsung, this can produce higher quality colors on LG’s existing OLED panels with even better brightness levels.

The results can be especially amazing on a computer monitor. Samsung’s QD-OLED technology emits pure blacks unlike IPS monitors, which can only produce ghost grays when they try to represent black colors.

The upcoming MEG 342C QD-OLED monitor indicates that technology is gaining more adoption among PC makers. The MSI product will also have a response time of 0.1 milliseconds, along with a refresh rate of 175 Hz.

There is no word on the price or release date of the monitor. But the product seems ready to challenge the Alienware 34 QD-OLED, which offers similar specifications. It is now on sale for $ 1,299 and has been certified as a G-Sync Ultimate display.

Samsung also plans to launch its own 34-inch monitor with QD-OLED technology, the Odyssey G8QNB (Opens in new window). We first saw it at CES 2022, but no pricing or release date has been announced.
