The M57 will be closed for at least five months, including some weekends

Parts of the M57 will remain closed for at least five months, including several weekends, National Highways has announced.

The road maintenance company will carry out repairs between junctions one (Tarbock Interchange) and two (Prescot) of the M57 after trying to make repairs for two years. Despite attempts to repair the road, the road continues to deteriorate with potholes and other problems that form regularly.

National Highways undertook an investigation and found that a deeper and more extensive repaving was needed.

The team plans to resurface more than 13 miles of roadway and said without the work the road “would continue to get worse, which means more regular work will be required in the future.” Once completed, the company expects to reduce the need for more work on the highway, minimizing long-term customer disruptions.

Work will begin on Monday, June 6, and is expected to be completed by the end of November. Most repairs will be carried out overnight between 8pm and 6am, when traffic flow is at its lowest.

In a bulletin to local people, National Highways said: “We will also take the opportunity to do as much work as possible along this stretch of the M57. This includes the replacement of road markings, traffic detection cables and joints. of bridges.

“To ensure the safety of our workers and motorcyclists, there will be total closures of the M57 road at night between junctions one and three. Night closures will be maintained throughout the project, but only the road will be closed in a north or south direction in every moment “.

In addition to daily overnight closures, National Highways has also planned six sets of weekend closures for deeper recovery treatments. The company has said they have “avoided big sports evenings” to reduce the impact on customers.

Weekend closing dates include:

  • Friday, June 10 from 8pm to 6am from Monday 13th June
  • Friday, June 17 from 8pm to 6am from Monday, June 20th
  • Friday, June 24 from 8pm to 6am from Monday, June 27th
