Britain’s national security has been put at risk because migrants who arrived in Britain after crossing the Channel in small boats have disappeared before being fingerprinted or photographed, a watchdog has warned.
A damning report by David Neal, the Chief Inspector of Borders and Immigration, found that 227 migrants who did not have their biometrics recorded had fled “safe” hotels in a six-month period over the past year.
It warned that failing to record people’s biometrics, such as fingerprints, photographs and retinal scans, posed a risk to national security and safeguarding concerns for vulnerable migrants at risk of being trafficked or abused other ways.
