Wellington Duffern Guelph Health Unit hopes to have small amounts of a pre-exposure vaccine for monkeypox available next week.
Ontario is monitoring 67 confirmed cases of the virus, most of them in Toronto. However, Wellington Dufferin Guelph confirmed a case last month.
According to the criteria of the Ministry of Health, the unit is looking to have the vaccine available for use prior to exposure in the coming days. A spokesman for the health unit says he is working on a program with local partners. He also expects to have small amounts of the vaccine continuously. This number would be based on eligibility and demand.
Dr. Matthew Tenebaum, the official health doctor, hopes to be able to meet local demand and increase access if necessary.
