The Ninth Avenue SE bridge connecting Calgary’s East Village with Inglewood is fully open after a nearly two-year delay.
The old bridge, which crosses the Elbow River just south of the Bow River, was dismantled in September 2019.
At the time, the city estimated that the replacement would be open in the fall of 2020.

The delay was due to the termination of a subcontractor and the need to find a new steel manufacturer.
About 20,000 drivers use the bridge daily. The new bridge is made of about 500 tons of steel and 26,000 bolts, the city said in a statement.
Details of the total cost, which is expected to exceed the original $ 23 million budget, are expected later Tuesday.
