The next version of Apple CarPlay will be expanded from an app on the car entertainment information screen to a brand new interface for all instrumentation, climate controls and entertainment features.

Technology giant Apple has so far approached a manufacturer of its own cars, revealing a new variant of its CarPlay system that now controls all the screens and functions of the car.
Revealed overnight in the initial images, the new CarPlay system moves from a static app to the car entertainment information system to a new user interface not only for information, but also for the dashboard. Car Instruments and Key Driver Readings
While the information and entertainment features of the current version of CarPlay stop at media and maps, the new CarPlay system will integrate all other pre-required controls into your car’s native system, including radio and climate controls.
The new instrument cluster shows speed, rpm, fuel level, temperature and other key metrics, and can be configured in a variety of different styles, from traditional circular readings to futuristic sliders or a widescreen map. .
Various widgets will also be available, showing the weather, music, air quality, calendar, and status of the connected home device.
Apple says the first vehicles with the revamped CarPlay system will be “announced” in late 2023, though it’s unclear whether that date refers to the timing of the sale or a global revelation.
The system will be available for vehicles from the following brands: Jaguar, Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Nissan, Infiniti, Ford, Lincoln, Volvo, Polestar, Honda, Acura, Renault and Audi.
The mention of Volvo, Polestar, Ford and Lincoln is a surprise, as these brands have adopted (or plan to launch) new entertainment information systems driven by the architecture of Android’s car entertainment system. Google.
Volvo and Polestar vehicles do not currently have Apple CarPlay in any form; although Polestar cars will get it in a few months, and Volvo is expected to continue.
It is also unclear whether the new Apple CarPlay system will be available to current CarPlay-compatible vehicle drivers, although Apple’s writing suggests that this will not be the case (or at least not the full system).
